61- Droughtmaster Cattle Breeding how we wean our Calf's to set them onto easy handling 24. 08. 2022

On the 15th July 2022 we started the weaning process of the 8 month old calf's, they were fitted with plastic nose jewelry, to stop them sucking milk, this stayed on for 1 week then they were removed from the mums and locked up for a week. During this time they stop wanting to get back to mum and the mums stop looking for the calf both settle down during this week. We start the 6 week process of hand feeding 1 loaf of bread per day, grain and minerals twice a week molasses 3 time a week and a bale of hay once a week they were also drenched as they are likely to get worms once they are removed from mums milk. During this time they quickly get to know me and respond quickly to being called for treats. I can pick the very friendly heifers for future breeding, 2 of these 8 we will keep.
