What we've done now is put tape around the flange about an inch and half to two inches away where you can get the elasticool or tar to bind to the metal. And then I make sure that I cover up any nail holes that might have been there. And spread it out, try to feather it out near the tape. And that way.

When we pull the tape off, it looks like you did a perfectly good square. Even though you might have gotten over into the tape quite a bit. It's what I've been doing for years and years. And I know there's people that say you should use this, but I'm telling you this works and works good, easy to maintain, inexpensive and any kind of caulking shrinks. It really shrinks.
