Coolant leaks where very common on the mk4 1.8t and Audi 1.8t TT. The composite gets weak and brittle over time and causes coolant leaks. Add on to that engine oil leaking on to the housing will make it worse. Eurowise developed an aluminum upgrade kit for your 1.8t.
