More of the river tour along the Chaopraya River in Bangkok were stops 3 and 4 of the day. All part of a 5 hour tour along the river for a price of 599 Baht per person it was a great chance to see some ancient temples and explore the area where tourists normally do not get to see.

Stop 3 was at Wat Khema Phirataram. Formerly known as Wat Khema or Wat Khen Ma, it is an ancient royal monastery since the early Ayutthaya period. The Phra Maha Chedi contains the Buddha's relics inside and is a holy site for Buddhists. The temple dates back to before Bangkok and was restored by Rama IV who gave it the current name and the rank of Royal Temple.

Stop 4 was to see Wat Sam Phraya. Wat Sam Phraya วัดสามพระยา is a Thai royal temple of the third class, located in the Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok. Formerly called Wat Sak or Wat Bang Khun Phrom, it was presumably built in the Ayutthaya period. It was restored and given its present name in the Bangkok era.

During the reign of King Rama III, the temple had fallen to ruins. When the three phraya offered the temple to King Rama III, he bestowed it the name "Sam Phraya Temple" (Temple of the Three Lords) and raised it to the status of a royal temple in the year 1823.

These temples were a lot of fun to visit. The history and architecture are amazing. They are also off the normal tourist trail and not many people outside of the locals know about them. They are along the river so easily accessible by boat and are like stepping back in time to a simpler version of Bangkok. It was a great third and fourth stops on the tour of Bangkok by boat.
