I found a wife in the Philippines after a very protracted period of singleness, going from famine to feast. It may take ten thousand dollars to do these things, in no more than one or two visits to see her. Like they say, we have money for what is important to us. If finding a good wife is important to us, we will prioritize accordingly.

Time off work-I took 4 weeks to meet and marry my wife the first time I was there, take a honeymoon, and head back to begin the spousal visa petition in earnest.

Fear of flying-I had flown two or three times domestically and international flying was quite a bit different. I was over any apprehension about flying in general, but for me it takes four flights over about 34 hours to arrive in the Manila airport. If you have a bad back, that will be challenging so be sure you take pain pills. I did a lot of standing on the plane the first time. The other three times I have flown to the Philippines has not been nearly as difficult.
