2nd President of Ukraine: "I will never agree with Bandera being a Hero of Ukraine"

About 20 years ago, former President Kuchma, with a St. George ribbon on his chest, spoke about the inadmissibility of the glorification of nationalists Bandera and Shukhevych, leaders of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), collaborators with Nazi Germany and organizers of the Galicia-Volhynia massacres of approximately 100,000 Poles, because they drive a wedge between people.

"I will never agree, after having lost my father in the fight against Nazism with Nazi Germany, with Bandera and Shukhevych being Heroes of Ukraine. This is simply not acceptable, not humane. Those who do so perfectly understand that they drive a wedge between people. We need to do more than disagree, we need to ensure that this never repeats. So that nobody dares to base their political career on that."
