Yom Teruah is Hebrew for Day of the Awakening Blast or Feast of Trumpets. It is also called Rosh HaShanah for 'head of the year.' It is literally a blast to practice. We blow shofars (the curly horns, ram's or Yemenite) and eat sweet stuff. My wife calls this the "feast of sugar."
