This song has been around since forever!!! Lol... I just didn't know what to do with the riffage. Then one day, it just all come together with the help of DJ, of course. Lol. Ryan (DJ's brother) sings the harmony parts on this one. I think he did a great job. It's his lead guitar idea that's in the song, too.
I try to write lyrics about things that I have experience with so that I'm writing about something that I know about. It makes the process a lot easier for me. This song is about what my family and I call "mean brain." Your mind will try to convince you of things that aren't true about yourself. Things that you can have tangible evidence about to prove they aren't true, but when your mind is telling you that you're a bad person, etc... it's very hard to ignore. You can feel trapped and think that no one understands or knows what you're going through. It's all a lie. The saying that "We are our own worst enemy" has a lot of truth to it.
