Getting Through Tough Days with the Help of God

1) Pray AND Give thanks
• Thank God for a body that heals, providing for your needs, giving you people who support you
• Make a list of all you are thankful for. This takes the focus off of the troubles and onto the positives.

• Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, in prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

2) Believe that the next day will be better. Mercies are new every morning.

• Lamentations 3:21-25
This I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions (mercies) never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him

3) Remember "this is temporary". God is Eternal and has Eternal Glory awaiting us. No more pain, no more tears, no more darkness.

• Revelation 21:4-5
‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

4) Rest in the promises of God. He promises to carry you and see you through.

• Psalm 34:17-18
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

• Isaiah 40:28-31
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

5) Keep fighting, don't give up. God will never leave you or forsake you.

• Joshua 1:9
Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

• Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

6) Focus on things above AND Praise God, sing or listen to worship music

• Colossians 3:2
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

• Philippians 4 – gives us advice about how to get through rough days

• Verse 4
Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!

• Verses 8-9
Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is purse, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things… And the God of peace will be with you.

7) He will work all things for your good. We grow from our hardships.

• Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

8) With our experiences, we are able to understand and have compassion in order to help and comfort others.

• II Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

9) We have a high priest who has also been through what we are experiencing in this physical life.

• Hebrews 4:14-16
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
