Are We Home Of The Free?

Home Of The Free? - A poem of concern!

As avid patriots wave flags and question why,
The proud eagle watches with a tear in its eye
for its sacred land of the brave and the free
is rife with acrimonious rivalry.

The Statue of Liberty trembles in place--
The huddled masses she can no longer face.
A once united and devoted nation
She observes full of strife and condemnation.

Noble words our forefathers fought to defend
are deemed unworthy as lawmakers pretend.
Ideals once considered as our guiding light
are berated as ones held no longer right.

Nevermore sacred is the motto, “In God We Trust”--
The downtrodden eagle hangs its head in disgust.
The Statue of Liberty into the harbor sheds tears
as “we the people” are consumed with great fears.

I follow the news feeds that are posted each day,
and experience great feelings of angst and dismay.
Opinions on “The Liberal Left”, and “The Conservative Right”
leave me appalled as I tremble at what’s in sight.

Our country’s under siege with illness and strife,
attacked by a disease and anarchy that threatens our life.
We as a nation face a double-barreled shotgun blast
that could bring us to the point where freedom can’t last!

There are those who value not hard-earned liberty,
and are Hell bent on dismantling our history.
I ask is there a leader left who can get us through
and restore the majesty of The Red, White, and Blue?

IF NOT, WILL WE STILL BE – HOME OF THE FREE?
