There are a lot of claims that Lovecraft was a raging racist, but most of the examples that are pulled out are typically just him using the common language of the day, or of the period that a story was set in, and is not obviously, to me, a sign of his own personal racism, but rather just his being a product of his time. This poem, on the other hand... While I've never seen this poem presented as an example of his racism, I think a good case could be made that it is the best example of it, at least that I've come across so far.

It was stupidly difficult to find a US and English flag together, as opposed to a US and UK flag, or a Union Jack. And just forget about a 48-star US flag that would have been in use in 1916 when the poem was written, you'll never find that paired with a St. George's Cross English flag.
