Chicago Public Schools’ classes are canceled again Tuesday as teacher contract negotiations continue with no word that a tentative agreement has emerged to end the strike.

The news late Monday afternoon means that the walkout will extend into a ninth school day.

Talks were still going on Monday evening, but outwardly the city and the Chicago Teachers Union continued to trade jabs and disagreed on how far apart financially their mutual current offers were.

The charged rhetoric continued Monday, with CPS CEO Janice Jackson branded as “a lie” the union president’s claim that she “walked away from the table” over the issue of teacher prep time.
