A little sensitivity work. This is the second of 2 daan chi sau patterns that we use in the curriculum. Here's the secret, though: we probably don't spend more than an hour or two PER YEAR on this (I may, individually, put more time into it to teach a new student, but we move them on pretty quickly). Learning patterns is NOT the best use of your time. It is somewhat necessary to help build the student's foundation, but the real work is in the play.
The real point of doing drills like this is to learn "how to get there from here" on top of the obvious tactile read of the opponent. It creates little "if, then" scenarios that help the students make decisions. But if we never let them make their own decisions, it's a waste of time. So we practice this for a little bit, and then move on.
We call this the 6 Point Daan Chi Sau drill. We have a video on it from a few years ago, but I'm not going to dig up the link right now. Try it out, then go play.
