Trump meets with survivors of religious persecution, saying "I will stand side by side with you forever”
On Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.,U.S. president Trump met in the oval office with 27 survivors of religious persecution from 17 countries, including Ms. Zhang Yuhua, a Falun Gong practitioner from China.
It was Trump's first official White House meeting with a Falun Gong practitioner persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party(CCP). President Trump spoke to survivors of religious persecution visiting the White House, “Each of you has suffered tremendously for your faith. you’ve endured harassment, threat, attack, trial, imprisonment, and torture.”
“Each of you has now become a witness to the importance of advancing religious liberty all around the world.”
“In America we always understood that our rights come from God, not from government.”
Ms.Zhang Yuhua greeted President Trump, introduced herself as a Falun Gong practitioner and said her husband is still in prison, who also a Falun Gong practitioner.
President Trump asked Zhang Yuhua, "which prison?"
Zhang replied that it’s Suzhou prison in Jiangsu Province.
Zhang also told Trump about another practitioner imprisoned at the same facility who died one day after being released. Before the person died, he vomited a large amount of blood, she said.
She also told President trump that the forced organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners is still happening, and asked the president to help stop this persecution by the CCP.
President Trump said "Yes, I understand." to Ms. Zhang.
Zhang Yuhua was the Dean of Russian Department at Nanjing Normal University School of Foreign Languages and Cultures, the Deputy to the 12th Nanjing People's Congress and a member of the legislative affairs committee.
However, because of her faith in Falun Gong, she was kidnapped four times, put into labor camps three times, and sentence once, losing freedom for seven years and seven months in total.
She was severely tortured while detained in China. That included enduring electric shocks, sleep deprivation, forced injections of unknown drugs, and being forced to run for hours under the baking sun.
Ma Zhenyu, Zhang Yuhua's husband, is the former radar design engineer Of China Electronics Technology Group Cooperation’s 14th institute.
He once hosted many large projects, designed and completed major military electronic products.
Due to insistence on practicing Falun Gong, Ma is long persecuted by the communist authorities.
He has been kidnapped, imprisoned and tortured many times, being detained for more than seven years in total.
On September 18, 2017, Ma was illegally kidnapped by the CCP for the fifth time.
Just for writing to CCP leaders and telling the truth about the Party’s persecution of Falun Gong, he was illegally sentenced to three years and fined with RMB 30,000.
Speaking in defense of religious freedom, President Trump said,
“I admit it’s very important. It’s vital. It’s really vital.”
He also said to the 27 survivors of religious persecution that
"You have been through a lot more than most people could ever endure. And I want congratulate you.”
“It’s really an honored to be with you, and I will stand side by side with you forever.”
