Hunting Cape Buffalo and Honoring a Friend

Every hunt is special in its own way, but this is the story of a particularly memorable dangerous game adventure. Sometimes the chase takes a backseat to a bigger, more meaningful picture, and such was the case on our Cape Buffalo hunt in the Northern Cape of South Africa.

This hunt itself is only part of the equation, one that began decades ago when World Champion shooter Stan Pate struck up a friendship with an older gentleman by the name of Richard Cameron. Their mutual love of hunting made them fast friends, with Stan taking the elder Richard for breakfast and sitting around his house watching hunting shows. It was during this time that Stan was regaled with Richard’s stories of previous African Plains Game hunts and his final wish to return to Africa one last time to hunt “Black Death”—the Cape Buffalo.
