Human Trafficking In Canada with Grace Simon and Amanda Stassen

July 30th was World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Human trafficking continues to be a massive issue—both in Canada and abroad.

It is estimated that 35 million people are trafficked every day worldwide (close to Canada’s population). Trafficking increased during the pandemic, with Facebook and Instagram seeing a 100% recruitment increase.

Montreal-based Mindgeek and PornHub is the 10th most visited adult content website worldwide and has been caught sharing non-consensual material. Despite this, they have not yet been charged.

On this show, we are diving into the issue again and looking at a success story from Newmarket, ON, where city councillor Grace Simon has successfully taken up the fight—leading the charge in banning massage parlours in her city.

Advocate and strategist Amanda Stassen, a part of the executive team of Community Partner Alliance to Stop Human Trafficking, also joins us for the conversation.
