China Arrests Hong Kong Protest Leaders, Cancels Saturday March

China appears to be pursuing a strategy of intimidation with respect to the recent intensification in protests in Hong Kong. Chinese authorities seem to be somewhat reluctant to use substantial force to quell the protests. This to me signals a weakness on the part of Chinese authorities, indicating that they feel that a violent crackdown on the mass movement may do more to harm the Chinese cause than to help it.
