Lake Havasu, Arizona, is a reservoir from the Parker Dam on the Colorado River. The dam was constructed from1934-1938 with 450 miles of shoreline. In 1963 Robert McCulloch was looking for a place to test his outboard engines. He picked this area and Havasu City emerged in 1963. There was one road into the City, so McCulloch arranged to fly potential land buyers into the area. From 1964-1978, a plane flew 2,702 flights and transported 137,000 potential land buyers into Havasu City. In 1968, to bring notoriety to the City he purchased the London Bridge for $2.4 million. 10,276 granite blocks were shipped to Havasu City, from London England, and the reconstruction project began. A ferry will take you across the river to a casino in California for a nominal fee.
