As press descended on Yelenovka to cover the attack on the detention facility in Yelenovka on July 28 that killed over 50 prisoners of war, Denis Pushilin, head of the DPR, implored them to remain objective. "It is very important for us that you report objectively on what is happening, not making things up, but talking about what you see with your own eyes." He said it's important that the international community understands the truth about the conflict. He blamed Ukraine for the attack, saying they did it to prevent POW testimony about criminal orders and to intimidate the remaining prisoners.

In other recent statements by DPR officials they say the Red Cross are performing only limited, conditional, investigation, and a Russian State Duma member says the UN and its human rights office are not in contact about the incident: https://youtu.be/1c7iAwCg9k0
