In 1976, due to mismanagement, ABA was absorbed by the NBA, the original ABA Team Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, New York Nets and San Antonio Spurs into the NBA. The number of teams increased to 22. Since then, the NBA formed a monopoly on the U. S. basketball industry. In 1977, the Buffalo Braves moved to San Diego and became the San Diego speedboats. That same year, the New York Nets changed their name to the New Jersey Nets.
