Grab some popcorn and your favorite beverage (or two) as we take you through the entire process of fixing a gushing pond dam leak on our own with the Bobcat e42 mini excavator and our small Chevy 3500 dually dump truck. I learned this old time excavator trick from an excavator friend of mine, Morris Mott (Mott Excavating). Morris is a great teacher for someone willing to pay close attention! We'll also reference some mistakes I made when I fixed our last pond dam leak on my own, and collapsed a part of the dam! Most people who have ponds know that you are NOT supposed to let trees grow on the pond dam! But we just bought this farm about 3 1/2 years ago, and it had been neglected for at least 20 years so there was literally a forest grown into the old pond dam! As a matter of fact, there was a gushing pond dam leak running when we bought it, so that was the first of several pond dam leaks that Morris tackled for us. That one alone brought the pond level up about 3 feet, back to its original level. This caused a few other small pond dam leaks that we took care of as they came. but since then it has held quite well for a couple of years now until this most recent leak. Lets break out the mini excavator and do some digging to repair this major dam leak without draining any of the pond water out!
