MMA fighter with jiu jitsu black belt pins to sidewalk thug who was on sucker punching rampage in NY
A mixed martial arts fighter with a jiu-jitsu black belt was caught on video pinning to a sidewalk a man who was on an alleged sucker-punching rampage against unsuspecting New York City pedestrians last week, the New York Post reported.
What are the details?
Ro Malabanan, 44, told the Post he was walking to his boxing-instructor job last Wednesday morning when he saw 28-year-old Samuel Frazier sucker-punch a construction worker.
Malabanan broke it all down for his Instagram followers, saying he was walking toward the victim as Frazier came "out of nowhere" and "sucker punched one of the guys in the side of the face." He said he watched the culprit keep moving down the sidewalk past him before he checked on the victim and told him to call police.
Then Malabanan said "two other guys rolled up" and said the man had just punched people down the block — and with that Malabanan said he sprang into action and ran after the culprit.
“My jiu-jitsu instincts just kicked in. I jumped on his back,” Malabanan said on an Instagram video, adding that when the culprit "tried to swing me off of him," the MMA fighter used a "seatbelt position" to drag the alleged sucker-puncher "down to the floor, and I immediately took his back and pinned him to the ground.”
Malabanan said "pissed off" victims came up and said, "Yeah, this guy punched me in the face," "Yeah, this guy hit me," and "This guy hit an old guy" and began punching and kicking the suspect.
But Malabanan put a stop to it and ordered them to call police instead. Soon police are seen on video arriving and handcuffing the suspect.
“Just another day,” Malabanan said. “A lot of crazies out there right now in the streets, so just please be careful. They will sucker-punch you. They will take out their frustrations. It's hot in New York right now; hot temperatures equals hot heads, and some people out there are just looking for a reason to just cause trouble. For those of you who are into martial arts, stay frosty, do your part, make sure you don't punch him or kick him and turn it into more violence. If you can subdue him somehow and wait for the cops to get there, it's probably the best situation.
