This Existed Before Time and Creation! * John 1:2 * Today's Verses

The first 18 verses of John are called the prologue by many scholars. Combined, these verses are considered one of the most complex theological statements in all of the Bible. In verse 1, John identifies the Word as Jesus and Jesus as God. Verse 2 restates this point but with more depth. The word "with" in the original language means "towards." Later in his gospel, John introduces the Holy Spirit and the existence of the Trinity, but here he is plainly defining plurality within God. John wants us to understand the presence of Christ and His relationship with the Father before creation. John's explanation begins in eternity and moves forward to creation. Only from this understanding can the whole meaning of all Jesus said and did be understood.
