Complacency is the biggest enemy as an orchid grower! Occasionally keeping an eye on a certain grouping of orchids because they are hard to reach is not enough when it comes to scale. Larger orchids can handle a scale attack, Tolumnias will perish very quickly when infested with scale and should never be left unguarded. I use garlic alcohol successfully to kill and protect my orchids from any pest infestation, but as garlic alcohol is an organic pesticide, it has to be reapplied at least every 3 months. I left my preventative pest treatment for far too long, thinking that everything was ok, until I saw the signs of scale attach on my tolumnias. What are the signs and symptoms of scale on orchids?
