1. Fish farmers in Taiwan are concerned that their trade with China is likely to go from bad to worse following last week's visit to the island nation by US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Beijing extended its ban on Taiwan's seafood a day after Pelosi's arrival, blocking shipments of chilled white striped hairtail and frozen horse mackerel. The country claimed to have found traces of the coronavirus on the packaging of some products, but the bans were widely seen as retaliation against Taiwan for allowing Pelosi's visit. [@ Reuters ]

2. The geopolitical storm that followed US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan on August 2, 2022, has placed the livelihoods of Taiwanese fish farmers at risk.

Mainland China extended its ban on Taiwanese seafood one day after Pelosi's arrival, blocking shipments of chilled white striped hairtail and frozen horse mackerel, saying it had found traces of coronavirus on the packaging of some products.

China also banned imports of sand and suspended shipments from 35 Taiwanese exporters of biscuits and pastries. The embargoes were widely seen as an act of retaliation against Taiwan over Pelosi’s visit. [ @ South China Morning Post]
