The Senate Banking Committee held a hearing to examine the banking challenges cannabis store owners and sellers face in states where marijuana has been legalized. Industry stakeholders who testified stressed the need for federal action and clear regulations as more and more states expand usage or legalize marijuana. Lawmakers were considering a bill called the SAFE Banking Act, aimed at protecting financial institutions that provide services to legal cannabis businesses and providers.
