And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said: I have obtained from the LORD a man.

And she bore his brother Abel; and Abel was a shepherd, and Cain was a tiller of the ground.

And it came to pass at the end of the days that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

And Abel also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof; and the LORD looked on Abel and on his offering.
But for Cain and his offering he did not. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

And the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has thy countenance fallen?
If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door, and its desire shall be upon you, but you shall have dominion over it.

And it came to pass, as they were standing in the field, that Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.
And the Lord said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I know not: am I my brother's keeper?

And God said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to Me from the ground.
And now cursed art thou from the earth, which hath opened its mouth to receive thy brother's blood at thy hand.

When you till the ground, it shall no longer give you its strength; you shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth.
And Cain said to the Lord, "My wickedness is greater than can be forgiven.

Behold, thou shalt drive me out this day from the face of the earth, and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that whosoever findeth me shall slay me.

But the Lord said to him: Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, seven times shall he be punished. And the Lord set a sign on Cain, lest anyone who found him should strike him.

And Cain went out from the face of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east side of Eden.
And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived, and bore Enoch: and he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son Enoch;

And unto Enoch was born Irad, and Irad begat Mehujael, and Mehujael begat Methusael, and Methusael begat Lamech.

And Lamech took unto himself two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have cattle.

And his brother's name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and the organ.
And Zillah also bore Tubalkain, master of all copper and iron works; and the sister of Tubalkain was Noemah.

And Lamech said to his wives Adah and Zillah, "Hear my voice, you women of Lamech, hearken to my words, for I have slain a man for wounding me, and a young man for trampling on me.

For Cain shall be punished seven times; but Lamech seventy times seven.
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bore a son, and called his name Seth: for, said she, God hath given me another son instead of Abel; because Cain slew him.

And to Seth also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos. And he began to call on the name of the LORD.
