FIGHTING FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 80! NEVER STOP FIGHTING WITH STEVE WEST

Steve West has devoted his life to social justice causes since he was a young man. In the early days of the Civil Rights Movement, he worked to ensure fair housing for all. With an interest in 1950s rhythm and blues music, West volunteered to co-produce major benefit concerts with his friend Herb Cox, lead singer of The Cleftones. He secured a job with a small wholesale lumber company, working there for 20 years. As the company grew, West rose from bookkeeper to salesman to vice president and then full partner. By 1969, the company went public.In the early 1970s, West felt the call of the world's hungry millions. He left his lumber company and starting Impact On Hunger with the mission to raise the issue of hunger and it's possible eradication as a worldwide priority. From 1980 to 1986, West and his growing group worked toward that goal. He said it was one of the proudest and personally satisfying times of his life. The organization instituted World Hunger Week in the New York City Public School System. Using an Impact-created curriculum, every high school student in New York and many other cities spent one week focused on the hunger issue in their classes. In 1986, West founded Homeworks Modular Homes, a home builder on Long Island that evolved over the next 20 years into the Modular Home Center, which grew to a national web-based company. In 2005, West passed Homeworks to others, retired and relocated to Vizcaya west of Delray Beach.
