This one is Alternative in the sense that by using many open string innovations pioneered by the 70's lead guitarists, new voices arise out of it.
The other discipline is harder: That of sustained notes.

Sustains are usually left sitting on the bench and rarely get used. The tendency in playing a fast tempo, is always to play fast and faster notes. You really got to watch that you dont get swept up in the mesmerization (mesmerizing) of speed.
It is difficult, psychologically to hold a long note after clusters of fast ones.

When one does acquire the wherewithal to sustain, one must always be ready to stay on top of the rhythm....or beat....or groove.
Throw in a couple of short bursts of fast notes in between sustained and you got a sangria of sound.
