Love The Same Way God Loves You! * Colossians 3:14 * Today's Verses

In this passage titled "Put on the new self," Paul has just finished going through a list of characteristics that Christians should demonstrate because they are now their new self in Christ. He listed compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness; in verse 14 he says to put on love beyond all those things. The critical takeaway from this instruction comes from the form of love Paul uses in the original language. The word he used was agape. Agape is God's unconditional love for us and the kind of love we should have for each other. Paul is not suggesting that the emotion we associate with love will result in unity. Instead, Paul instructs us to love each other the same way God loves us, resulting in the perfect bond of unity.
