The Dill-icious End

(November update: even after freezing temps last night, my dill is still alive. It doesn't want to freeze...not even in the freezer!)This is Lori Fiechter with the absolute last garden update for the season. This has to be the end now because everything--even the peppers and the basil--has been torn out and piled into the middle. I did find some dill weed growing in odd places--I must have thrown the dead plants next to the old shed because I had several clumps of very healthy dill growing there!

I wanted to see if there was a way to preserve fresh dill (besides drying it) and I read that it can be frozen, much the same way I froze fruit for smoothies. I froze it overnight on a silpat-lined jelly roll pan, stems and all.

Dill is frilly. Dill is odd. Dill did not want to stay frozen long enough for me to de-stem it; it thawed almost immediately when I removed it from the freezer. I managed to separate most of the fronds from the stem and the whole thing fit in a tiny jam jar. The good news is that it is still growing so maybe I'll be able to freeze another batch before the snow flies. With all our produce garnered in, I'll be switching gears until it is time to plan next year's garden. I plan to show how I make greek yogurt, milk kefir, kombucha, and maybe just some of the yeast breads/rolls I make. But that is for another month!

thanks for watching and a special thanks to my new subscribers that I met while substitute teaching these past couple of weeks! This dill's for you...
