Star Wars News - Kenobi Trailer Update

The much-anticipated first Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer is rumored to be releasing next week. Ewan McGregor returns to Star Wars via his very own TV series on Disney+. Originally conceived as a movie, Lucasfilm reworked the project to be a four-episode limited series that's set to release on May 25. As its premiere date nears, however, there has been barely any marketing for the show.

Set 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show will finally reveal what the audience favorite Jedi was up to in between the prequel and original trilogies. The series is directed by Deborah Chow, but specific plot details are still scant at the moment. What has been confirmed is the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. It's also been announced that the show will see another duel between Obi-Wan and his former Padawan in what Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy called the "rematch of the century."

Disney has been mum about pretty much anything related to Obi-Wan Kenobi, but with roughly three months to go before it hits the streaming platform, its marketing campaign is expected to begin in earnest soon. This could be kicked off by its first trailer which is now rumored to arrive next week, on March 9, according to Making Star Wars. The outlet cites an anonymous source who showed them images from the actual clip to back up their claim. That being said, the site also shares that they previously heard a rumor that Lucasfilm could be dropping the anticipated trailer on May 10. Regardless, either of these dates suggests that it will roll out sometime next week.

Many presumed that Disney was going to debut the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer during Super Bowl LVI, but that clearly didn't happen. Since then, fans have been anxiously checking for any update as to when the show's first look might drop. Several rumors about the show have popped up in the last couple of weeks, primarily regarding surprise guests on the series. Jimmy Smits was previously speculated to reprise his role as Bail Organa — one of Kenobi's trusted allies and Princess Leia's (Carrie Fisher) adopted father. More recently, there were whispers that Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn will also supposedly appear. But like the trailer release date, it's important to take these with a healthy dose of salt and best to wait for an official announcement from Lucasfilm.

In any case, considering its release date, it's safe to say that Lucasfilm is gearing up to start promoting Obi-Wan Kenobi sooner rather than later. Perhaps Disney+'s efforts are just primarily focused on pushing for Marvel Studios' Moon Knight which is scheduled to roll out at the end of the month. But promotional materials for the Star Wars limited series will surely begin to pop up soon as they build hype for the project. That said, considering the show's premise and what's known about it so far, Disney could probably get away with not pushing hard for it, knowing that fans are already invested in it.
