So you want to drone a fly a drone.

A here are a few things you’ll need to know before you start.

your first drone will more than likely to be a small sub 249gram drone with a camera attached like the DJI mini 2 or the more advanced mini 3

A 249g drone with a camera does require an operator ID which have to be displayed on the model.

If you are going to publish the photos or video commercial purposes than you will need insurance.
If it’s for youtube facebook instagram etc these platforms are businesses they will be making money off your videos so you’ll need insurance.

To get you’re operator ID you to sit a small test of 40 question on the drone code. A pass is 30 out of 40.

This is a yearly test and costs £10. You’ll also get a flyers ID which is free and last 5 years.

This obtainable at https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/individual

Having read the drone code in order to obtain you operator ID there are a few points id like to highlight.

1. The current ‘endangerment’ regulation in the Air Navigation Order (article 241), still applies, and so it is an offence to ‘endanger’ such property with an unmanned aircraft;
2. A person must not recklessly or negligently act in a manner likely to endanger an aircraft, or any person in an aircraft. (Article 240).
2. No flight over assemblies of people.
3. No intentional flight over uninvolved persons.
4. No flights within restricted airspace (Restricted Areas, Danger Areas, FRZs) without relevant permission.
5. the unmanned aircraft must be in the Visual Line Of Sight of the unmanned observer at all times.

So thats the legal stuff.
