How we Saved $$$ on Motorhome Storage | The Homestead #31

Episode 31 of The homestead.
Today we take a look at our shelter logic structure for our 24' 1988 Toyota motorhome. We build and finish the metal frame and park our campervan inside, all that's left is putting the cover on. We ended up buying a shelter that was meant for big cars as opposed to one made specifically for RVs. When RV is added to a product, the price of it goes way up. And also the sizes jump up quite a bit where as we only needed a couple inches or feet more then most car ones would provide. After searching the internet all over to find the largest shelter logic designed for cars, we found this one at Canadian tire. TSC also had some that were almost as big as this one. This one technically will fit our motorhome with all the dimensions it gives, but they don't account for the curved roof of the frame. And because our motorhome has a flat roof, the top corners of it are too high for the shelter. We decided to lift the frame up and place railway ties that we already had on our property underneath to become a built up wall under the structure. this gave the total height a few more inches and was enough for us to comfortably drive the motorhome in and out whenever we need. We also noticed that in rural Ontario we saw farmers do this but going as far as building walls for the shelter to sit on so they could store even larger vehicles and farming equipment. This method has worked for us and it might work for you. We saved roughly 2000$ by not having to buy an RV sized shelter, and now we can use that money to build this property up into the self sustainable community it is meant to be.
