Separating clay from regular soil to use in natural plaster | The Homestead E39 S1

In this video I show you my current clay production space, it is made of a wheel barrow, a garden hoe, and multiple 5 gallon buckets. The soil I used was from a ditch on our property, Clay is often found in ditches or streams as the water will deposit it on the banks and it begins to form a layer that water can run on. Separating clay from water is a easy and simple process but it does take time and patience. The steps I'll go over in a full how to video eventually, but the main steps is breaking up the soil and mixing it with water, then straining out any rocks, leaves and bigger materials, then you allow the clay to settle, pouring off excess water and silt. you then filter the rest through a rag and allow it to hang to drip and dry, and what you are left with is clay! I plan to use this clay primarily for mixing with sand and wheat paste to form a natural plaster for a feature in my Youtube studio room. It will be for covering up an existing chimney and wooden support system. It would be a massive job and possibly dangerous and damaging to remove the brick chimney so instead I decided I'm going to keep it, turn it into art, a book shelf, and a indoor plant space. follow along to see how it turns out!
