Coating Model Railroad track with Oxgard anti-oxidant to eliminate cleaning
6 years ago

I use sandpaper to clean the track to cause scratches on the rail on purpose in order to give a surface that can be filled with conductive anti-oxidant Oxgard. Using a Mark I finger, I rub in the coating by hand and it fills the scratches making for a super long lasting conductive surface. Rails coated this was have so far lasted more that 5 years without needing to be cleaned even once. The coating eliminates sparking. When sparks are observed that is an indication of a momentary short that needs to be corrected.
