At the end of Thursday Night Football’s game between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburg Steelers, Brown’s defensive lineman Myles Garrett ripped the helmet off of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudoplh and used it to hit Rudolph. This raises an interesting personal injury question. Had Rudolph been injured, could he sue Garrett for his injuries? Football is a violent game. As such, football players consent to the fact that they may be injured in the course and scope normal football altercations. I believe, Garrett’s actions go beyond the normal discourse of a football game and therefore, Rudolph could successfully recover damages for any injuries he suffered.
