This passage is titled "Fellow Workers." In this verse, Paul instructs on' proper use of prayer by believers and fellow workers in the mission Jesus started. He is addressing three common challenges to praying effectively. First, "Devote yourself" warns against a lack of dedication to prayer. Second, the word for alert in the original language implies mental and moral readiness, so "Keeping alert" addresses a sluggish approach to prayer. Finally, of utmost importance is praying with thanksgiving. We can't forget that we are in a real relationship with a real God, not some far-off unattached being, and we should always be expressing our gratitude to Him for all He is and does for us. Results come from proper prayer!
