In Toronto, Defence Minister Anita Anand announces that Canada will join a British-led mission to train Ukrainian soldiers. Authorized for deployment as part of Operation Unifier, up to 225 Canadian Armed Forces personnel will work in the United Kingdom to train new Ukrainian military recruits alongside counterparts from the U.K., the Netherlands, and New Zealand. In February 2022, Canada suspended its training mission in Ukraine ahead of Russian forces' invasion of the country.
