Berlin has 62 lakes, 10 rivers, 3 streams, 6 river locks, 13 river locks, and 114 water canals that are Berlin arteries waterways! The Berlin Water highways have been used over the centuries by kings and coal barges and are still major industrial thoroughfares. Berlin was built in the 12th Century in the midst of low-lying land crisscrossed by streams and rivers. The City of Berlin's system of waterways is home to more bridges than Venice, Italy! Berlin’s more than 100 miles of navigable waters eventually connect to the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, and the Rhine all the way to the Black Sea! Berlin is nine times bigger than Paris, France! The German state of Berlin and the German state of Brandenburg have a total of 3,000 lakes.
