1999, at Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York. It was headlined by the performances of the rock bands The Stone Roses, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Radiohead, as well as the rap act Public Enemy. Attendance was estimated at 250,000 people, making it the largest and most dangerous music festival of the 1990s. The Woodstock 99 festival was conceived by Michael Lang, the former press officer for the 1969 Woodstock festival.
