The USS Indianapolis | Blood in the Water

212

Just after midnight, on the 30th of July 1945, the USS Indianapolis was sunk by two torpedoes fired from a Japanese submarine. Within 12 minutes, only 900 of the 1,196 men on board escaped out into the open water, before the massive ship disappeared beneath the surface.

Although the ship’s radioman did manage to send out a distress call before abandoning the ship, it was ignored. No one believed the Indianapolis was sunk. No one would come looking for them.

Nothing, except for the sharks.

This is the story of the USS Indianapolis, Blood in the Water.
