OUR 1ST OPT-OUT
Our first experience with OPTING-OUT came more than 20 years ago. Robert, our son was not doing well in school. In fact, he was doing nothing in school, and we had decided to home-school Robert. The system had failed him from the beginning. Maybe it was the whole word reading recognition thing, a failed program indicative of our educational system, or just the failed structure of education itself. Which originally in Latin was…”educere,” which means to lead forth or draw out!
Whatever it was, or wasn’t, they weren’t drawing anything out of Robert, and we wanted him out.
Back then we were directed to the Nebo School District Headquarters. I use Headquarters/ or HQ because ever since then we’ve recognized there is a war going on and it’s against families and in this case our children.
“Why do you want to take Robert out?” The typical administrator said, condescending undertones seeping from behind his dark rimmed glasses. “Because he’s not learning anything, and he hates reading, and yes, we want him out.” “You do realize he might have issues getting into a good university without a proper diploma.” Responding in appropriate, calmly measured tones the executive, administrative, autobot recited from behind his big, brown desk. I took a breath, “Actually, having done work with homeschool students, and seeing their test scores, admission to most top universities is not only possible, it’s probable. However, all that aside, the way it’s going now he doesn’t stand a chance of getting in anyway. Show us what to sign and we’ll be on our way.” I stated this calmly, head cleared and with a smile that didn’t betray the electricity running up my spine. The arrogant, robotic, administrator silently pushed the form across his oversized desk, we signed and were on our way.
The BREATH, the non-confrontational tone, my non-combative training, and calm verbal defense had saved us all that day, and Robert was OPTED-OUT.
More on not fighting, BREATHING, and Verbal Defense coming. However, needless to say, the system is “butts in seats” not necessarily learning, and as the years past, my understanding of the diabolic agenda that pervades most modern education is far worse than I ever thought.
OPT-OUT heck ya! Is it easy? I won’t lie to you. OPTING-OUT is an environment of conflict, however, we will give you tools to make it SIMPLE for sure. That being said, we are in it for our children, and the future of the planet. Stand for your children, and OPT-OUT off anything you don’t agree with. OPT-OUT…
