Sunday Longplay - Adventures of Lolo (Game Boy)

This week on Sunday Longplay, it's another game in a puzzle series my parents were addicted to when I was a kid. I've done all three NES games in the series (as well as the first Japanese Famicom game) on my channel already, but now let's tackle the Adventures of Lolo game on Game Boy!

This game was released in 1995, 5 years after Adventures of Lolo 3 on the NES. To accomodate for the Game Boy's smaller size, the puzzle rooms were shrunk down to half dimensions, in exchange for there being more of them. But some of the puzzles still prove to be quite perplexing!

Just like in the NES trilogy, the objective in each room is to grab all the hearts, without getting yourself killed by the various enemies guarding them. To help you do this, you get blocks that you can push into the way of the enemies blocking their attacks, egg shots to turn enemies into eggs and move them to block enemy shots or cross water, and various power-ups allowing you to break rocks, change directions of one-way arrows, or build bridges across water.

Another thing the Lolo series has been known for its infectious soundtrack that you will never be able to get out of your head. The Game Boy game, despite having a weaker sound chip than the NES, still manages to give us similar jaunty upbeat tunes.
