Wood Turning: Colored Elm Bowl (No Embellishing Wax! No paint!)

In this video I turned a bowl from some elm that had been cut down in the spring of 2021. I wanted to color it and high light the grain, but I don't have embellishing wax and I didn't want to use paint. I used alcohol dye to color it black, then I mixed some mica powder into some shellac-based sanding sealer, hoping the sanding sealer would help the mica powder flow into the open grain. It worked, and I applied 9 coats of acrylic sealer over the top. Love how the mica powder/sanding sealer worked, now if I could just get some wood that isn't all cracked up!
