Drone Attacks new Tensions over Karabakh. Russia Accuses Azerbaijan of breaking Ceasefire

1. The Russian defense ministry issued a statement saying Azerbaijan's armed forces violated the ceasefire and that it was "taking measures to stabilize the situation" with Armenian and Azerbaijani representatives.

Azerbaijan's defense ministry had earlier said Karabakh troops killed one of its soldiers in an attack in the Lachin district, blaming Armenia for the "bloody incident."

2. The Azerbaijani army later said it had captured several strategic heights in the region in a retaliatory operation against the "terrorist actions of illegal Armenian armed groups on the territory of Azerbaijan."

The army of the breakaway statelet accused Azerbaijan of violating the ceasefire, killing two soldiers and wounding another 14.

3. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry of Armenia published a statement, calling on the international community to take measures in response to "Azerbaijan’s aggressive actions" and reaffirmed its commitment to peace in the region. Earlier, Armenian media reported citing Nagorno-Karabakh forces that, on August 3, two servicemen died and 14 were injured in an abrupt escalation at the contact line with Azerbaijan.

В Министерстве обороны России сообщили, что в зоне ответственности миротворцев в Нагорном Карабахе отмечается обострение. Вместе с тем Вооруженные силы Азербайджана нарушили режим прекращения огня в районе высоты Сарыбаба.

«Отмечается обострение обстановки в зоне ответственности контингента. В районе высоты Сарыбаба со стороны вооруженных сил Азербайджана нарушен режим прекращения огня. Командованием Российского миротворческого контингента, совместно с представителями азербайджанской и армянской сторон предпринимаются меры по стабилизации обстановки», - говорится в сообщении на сайте Минобороны России.
