US and South Korea Fail to Agree on Deal to Keep US Troops In Korea

Negotiations have broken down between the US and South Korea. It looks as though there will be no extension to the cost sharing agreement between the two governments which is set to expire at the end of 2019. This is a similar situation to what transpired between the US and Iraq back in 2010, however these negotiations do not directly address the status of forces agreement. The cost sharing deal is a corollary to the status of forces agreement, meaning that US troops will likely be withdrawn from South Korea.
