The Coquito is a traditional holiday drink that originated in Puerto Rico often compared to an Eggnog. It is a rich, milky rum drink sweetened with curls of coconut cream, not to mention both evaporated milk and condensed milk. Traditionally served in little cordial or shot glasses sprinkled over with fresh ground cinnamon during the holidays.

This Coquito recipe comes from bartender extraordinaire and Puerto Rican native Joy Figueroa Coquito literally means "little coconut" in Spanish however there is nothing little about the rich and creamy coconut sweetness of this drink.

It’s currently unknown who exactly created coquito, or how the recipe came together to be what it is now, what is known is that jugs of it are served in December through the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6. December 21st Recipes for Coquito are passed down through families over the years, through the seasons, and so rarely will two be the same.

There is also a healthy debate between adding eggs vs not adding them. Clearly we are on the “no egg” side here.
