Indian university vice-chancellor resigns after being 'publicly humiliated' by officials
According to Indian media reports on July 30, a vice-chancellor of a university in Faridcourt, Punjab, India was humiliated in front of the camera by the state’s health minister, Chetan Singh Jadamajira, on the 29th local time, and the next day asked resigned. The vice-principal was asked by the officer to lie in a "poor condition" hospital bed and experience it for himself, the report said.
The state's health minister, accompanied by journalists and photographers, reportedly visited a public hospital for inspections after receiving complaints about cleaning problems in hospital wards. In a ward, Health Minister Jadamajira asked Dr Raj Bahadur, vice-chancellor of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, to lie on a hospital bed, video from the scene showed.
New Delhi TV said that as soon as Dr. Bahadur got up from his hospital bed, Minister Jadamajira was heard saying to him: "Everything is in your hands, everything is in your hands." Get up on the mattress, noting that the mattress is in poor condition. Jadamagira then asked to show him the spares.
After the incident, Opposition leader Pagut Singh, the leader of the Punjab Congress, slammed Jadamajira's actions, calling it a "cheap show". He added: "This mob behavior will only demoralize our medical staff."
NDTV also said that in May, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann fired then-Health Minister Vijay Singhra over allegations of corruption.
