Indian policeman suspended for beating a man with a child with a baton
The Times of India quoted local socialists as saying that at the time of the incident, a group of people were sitting in protest outside the hospital, and then the local police came to persuade the protesters to stop the sit-in and say not to interfere with official business. But then the two sides clashed.
The man who was beaten in the video, Ranijish Shukla, was the leader of the group of protesters. The video shows him holding a small child in his arms and being beaten repeatedly with a stick by a police officer. The Times of India said the man could be clearly heard shouting "the child will be hurt".
However, the Times of India said Shukla fought back after being beaten, even biting off the finger of the policeman who beat him. Shukla was also charged with criminal charges for robbery and assault.
